Research |
A Research Centre will be developed under the auspices of Acadamh na hOllscolaíochta Gaeilge; a centre that will be involved in the provision of educational activities; research and development; advice and enterprise in a coherent context. It is the main aim of the Research Centre to function as an exemplary centre; a centre of excellence; a resource and reference point for the Gaeltacht and, on a national basis, to encourage and promote excellence in research and scholarship; to enhance social; cultural and economic development of the Gaeltacht.
The Cultural Research Centre will promote excellent research and scholarship opportunities in the Gaeltacht for graduates from the Gaeltacht and other graduates with Irish. As a starting point, the Research Centre will pay particular attention to developing a general programme of research and scholarship in areas that are related to the specific needs of the Gaeltacht: language planning, information and communications technology, translation, the media, community development, business and enterprise with a particular emphasis on remote services, and cultural arts and heritage.
Centre Objectives |
To award scholarships and bursaries to graduates from the Gaeltacht and Irish speakers from outside the Gaeltacht, graduates who are highly capable of undertaking research and development in the Gaeltacht. This work will be based on subjects that are of particular importance to the viability of the Gaeltacht as a community functioning through the medium of a particular language.
To create facilities and an environment, in which graduates will gain the most they can from research and enterprise, which in turn will inspire new ideas, creativity and innovation for the promotion of new products and services in the Gaeltacht. Promote creativity, entrepreneurship and management skills of graduates from the Gaeltacht. This is done by providing graduates with the opportunity to work in a team of researchers, academic directors, business mentors and project managers.
