The National University of Ireland campus is a unique campus due to its proximity to the Connemara Gaeltacht. The regular use of the Irish language is an established part of social and academic life, while the city and university reflect the rich cultural ambience of a bilingual environment.

Irish language Courses for Students |

As part of the University’s aim of promoting the Irish language in the University and elsewhere, Acadamh na hOllscolaíochta Gaeilge provides the following programmes for undergraduate and postgraduate students who wish to learn Irish or to improve their ability in the language:

Dioplóma sa Ghaeilge (Leibhéil A2, B2, C1) |
Dioplóma sa Ghaeilge (Law) |
| This is a two year part-time programme that can
be undertaken by students in addition to their regular degree or post-graduate course. The programme is offered atthree different levels of competence in Irish, from beginner to fluent.) |
This is a two-year part-time programme provided for University
students studying Law. Students may undertake this programme in addition to their regular degree/postgraduate programme. |

Short Courses in Irish language |
Irish language Courses for International Students |
| Short courses in Irish are run during the year for
students who do not wish to undertake a diploma programme. In addition to these general courses, language courses covering specific areas of interest are organised where demand is sufficient. |
Special foundation level courses are provided for international
studentswho wish to gain some knowledge of the Irish language and culture. The Diploma in Irish (Level A2) is also suitable for such students. |
Courses in the Gaeltacht |

An tAcadamh organises courses in its Gaeltacht centres for students who wish to improve their Irish and gain experience of life in the Gaeltacht. Theses course are provided in Irish and also in the following areas; Gàidhlig, Translations, Computer Applications and Communications. Scholarships are available for students to assist them when attending these courses. |

Irish Language Environment |

Students and staff who speak Irish or who have an interest in the Irish language are always welcome in Áras na Gaeilge. Events are organised from time to time which give the Irish language community a chance to meet. The following are examples of such events:
The University Cumann Gaelach organises plays, debates and other events in Téatar Uí Chearbhalláin in Áras na Gaeilge. |
