Biography

Gearóid is originally from The Aran Islands. He has a degree in Finance, Computing and Enterprise from Fiontar in Dublin City University. After completing his degree, Gearóid spent three years working in various areas in the computer industry in Ireland and abroad.

Gearóid began working as a tutor in Ionad Charna in September 2001 and has since been employed as a computer executive. Gearóid teaches computer modules as part of the various Diploma courses taught in the Computer Unit. He also teaches computer modules as part of the courses organised by the Communications Unit and various computer short courses. He also helps with the maintenance of the computer systems in an tAcadamh.

In 2008 he completed an M.Sc. in Computing at Galway-Mayo Institute of Technology. His research dissertation was based on the use of a wiki as a storage and management system for folklore collections. He has a particular interest in the impact of new technologies on education and teaching methods.
