Biography

Michael is originally from Ceantar na nOileán.

He started working in the National University of Ireland, Galway in 1989. He is in charge of the Computer Unit in Ionad na Ceathrún Rua agus in Seanscoil Shailearna, Indreabhán.

He co-ordinates evening computer classes for adults in conjunction with Údarás na Gaeltachta. He has been accredited as an examiner by ECDL Ireland and as an administrator of ECDL courses in Oifig na Gaeilge Labhartha.

He was in charge of the SpeakWrite project – a computer program aimed at people who are learning Irish. In 1999 SpeakWrite Gaeilge was awarded the European Seal for Innovation in the Teaching and Learning of Languages, an award presented by the European Commission and Institiúid Teangeolaíochta Éireann.

He spent 15 years as Secretary of Cumann Peile Naomh Anna, Leitir Móir and was also the secretary of the organising committee for Comórtas Náisiúnta Peile na Gaeltachta held in Leitir Móir in 2002. He is currently working as Youth Officer with Cumann Peile Naomh Anna, and he is responsible for games, training and summer camps for the young people living in Ceantar na nOileán.

He is manager of the Under 12’s Team. He plays sport at an international level and is the captain of the Irish Wheelchair Association’s Rugby Team.

He also does some work on a voluntary basis including:

• He is an elected member of the National Sports Council of the Wheelchair Association of Ireland. 
• He is Chairperson of the Myles Mac Donnchadha Commemorative Committee. 
• He is Chairperson of the Gaelic Warriors Rugby Society.
• He is Chairperson of the Wheelchair Association of Ireland’s Sports Club.
• Secretary, the Corn Uí Chadhain Committee.
• Secretary, the Páidí Ó Conghaile Commemorative Committee.
