Biography

John is from Oileán Mhic Cionnaith in An Cheathrú Rua.

He works as a steward, attendant and driver in Ionad na Ceathrún Rua. He is actively involved in sailing and is a member of numerous sailing committees. He was one of the founders of Cumann Húicéirí na Gaillimhe.

He takes part in the boating festivals around the west coast every year and he has won numerous prizes. He has been appointed Chairman of Bord Muirchultúrtha na hÉireann. Cinegael made a programme about his life in 1986 – a description of his life as an emigrant in England and America. 

He spent years working as a driver and builder for Údarás na Gaeltachta.
