Dorothy is from Galway City.
She is actively involved in the research and development of courses for the Dioplóma sa Ghaeilge and the Diploma for Law Students. She is presently preparing a course for medical students. She teaches a course on the History of Translation in Ireland to students of Léann an Aistriúcháin and she has a particular interest in the history of Irish-language journalism.
She has worked in Áras na Gaeilge since 1991, and also spent a year teaching on a VTOS Course with the Galway Vocational Education Committee. She spent a period as an Executive with Bord na Gaeilge. She holds a B.A. in Irish and English, an M.A. and Ph.D. in Irish as well as an M.A. in Literature and Publishing from NUI, Galway. She was awarded a Postgraduate Certificate in Teaching and Learning at Higher Level in 2009.
