What they say about this course...
|
“I am delighted that I chose to study the BA sa Chumarsáid. The course contains a lot of practical work, something which I feel adds greatly to the training I am receiving. It has given me fantastic opportunities such as the 9 month work placement, which I spent with Stillwater Communications. Due to the small class sizes everyone knows each other well and the students have great craic in Carraroe. The staff at the Acadamh do their very best for the students and I am very grateful to them for all of the help they have given to me.”

Aims and Objectives
|
- The course will be run from NUI Galway’s external campus in An Cheathrú Rua.
- During the course students will learn to think in a logical manner while developing a creative eye and an ear for language. They will acquire research and analytical tools, an understanding of media ethics, and the essentials of media law.
- Year three offers students a unique opportunity to spend a year in a University abroad, on an Internship or on a community based learning programme. This will give students an insight into the market in which they may seek employment on completion of the course. They will make invaluable contacts and gain skills that can only be learned from first-hand experience.
- In Year 4 they will complete a research project in a specialised area of their choosing.
- Other subjects include media studies, Irish and Gaeltacht communities, and media in lesser-used language communities. There is a considerable emphasis on the acquisition of a high standard of fluency in both written and spoken Irish, with workshops in script writing, public speaking and presentation skills.

There are many potential employers at home and abroad, including RTÉ, TG4, BBC, local radio, local television, independent production companies and public relations companies.
