Course overview
|
Acadamh na hOllscolaíochta Gaeilge is offering a two-year part-time Diploma in Irish (level B2) to all students of the university, to all university staff and to the general public. This course is suitable for students who have some prior knowledge of Irish but who may not have had the opportunity to use it for some time. |
Mission
|
The mission of this course is to develop and foster language skills of students who have prior knowledge of Irish. This will be achieved through innovative communicative activities and by the use of authentic materials (i.e. television and radio programmes, newspapers, etc.) so that the student will gain an insight into everyday usage of the language.

Entry requirements
|
Applications will be welcomed from students who wish to add to their knowledge of the Irish language. This course is suitable for those who have a prior knowledge of the language (gained through the Irish educational system, for example).

This course will be available in the National University of Ireland, Galway and in other centres outside of the university.

The course
|
This course is being offered by Acadamh na hOllscolaíochta Gaeilge
, The National University of Ireland, Galway. The Diploma is delivered part-time over two years. Each academic year is divided into two semesters. A semester consists of 36 hours of tuition. Students will have the opportunity to attend courses in the Gaeltacht each year. The course consists of four modules. Students must successfully complete all modules to be awarded a Diploma.

Assessment Procedures
|
Course participants will sit an oral and written examination at the end of each year.
|
Oral Examination
|
Students’ competence in spoken Irish will be tested by oral examination in the first and second years.
|
Written Examination
|
Students will be tested by written examination at the end of the first and second years.
|
Continuous Assessments
|
Students will be required to complete assessments during each year of the course. |
The Language Placement Test
|
This is a test designed to indicate which level will best suit your language needs by testing your language level. The questions are multiple-choice and the suggested time for the test is 20 minutes.
