Introduction |
Acadamh na hOllscolaíochta Gaeilge is offering a two-year (part-time) Diploma in Irish (level A2) to all students of the university, to all university staff and to the general public. This course is suitable for students who have no prior knowledge of the language.

Misson |
The mission of this two-year part-time course is to give basic knowledge and understanding of Irish to students who have no prior knowledge of the language. Through this course, the student’s communicative skills will be developed to enable him/her to interact through Irish in a range of basic everyday situations.

There are no formal entry requirements for this course. Applications are welcome from those who are interested in gaining a basic knowledge of the language.

Number of Participants
|
This course will be available in the National University of Ireland, Galway and in other centres outside of the university. A maximum of 20 students will be accepted in each centre in which the course is being offered.

The Course
|
This course is being offered by Acadamh na hOllscolaíochta Gaeilge, The National University of Ireland, Galway. The Diploma is delivered part-time over two years. Each academic year is divided into two semesters. A semester consists of 10 teaching weeks. Students will attend a three hour class once a week over 2 academic years and will also spend one weekend in the second semester of both years in the Gaeltacht. There is an additional fee for the weekend course. The course consists of four modules. Students must successfully complete all modules to be awarded a Diploma. The four modules are: Listening and Speaking 1 & 2 (Years 1 and 2)

Assessment Procedures
|
Course participants will sit an oral and written examination at the end of each year. |
Oral Examination
|
Students’ competence in spoken Irish will be tested by oral examination in the first and second years. |
Written Examination
|
Students will be tested by written examination at the end of the first and second years.
|
Continuous Assessment
|
Students will be required to complete assessments during each year of the course.
Year 1: Two assessments. Year 2: Two assessments.
